How I Start Businesses (Even When I Don’t Have It All Figured Out Yet)
Real Talk From a Lifelong Entrepreneur Who Believes Action > Perfection
Let me get this out of the way up front:
I don’t start businesses the same way every time.
But I do start them with the same mindset every time:
👉 Get clear enough to take action.
👉 Take action fast.
👉 Let clarity catch up later.
If you're expecting a picture-perfect blueprint with neat little checkboxes, you won’t find it here. What you will find is a real, raw, repeatable rhythm—a roadmap grounded in grit, creativity, and actually doing the work. I’ve used it to build service-based businesses, product lines, digital communities, and more.
And now? I’m building three different businesses simultaneously (yes, I’m a little wild—but it’s the good kind). And I want to show you how I do it—all of it—step by step, inside the Flourish in Business Membership.
But before we dive into the subscription tiers, let me show you how this all started…
From Babysitters Club to Business Builder
“I didn’t start with a business degree. I started with a pack of flyers and a take-charge attitude.”
My first taste of entrepreneurship didn’t come from an MBA program—it came from a book. Kristy from The Babysitters Club had the kind of “take-charge” energy I couldn’t resist. I was the kid selling candy, pulling weeds, washing cars, and making flyers with my parents’ phone number on them. (Shoutout to my parents for letting random neighbors call the house to book me. 😂)
Even then, I knew the secret:
📌 Get in front of people who need what you do.
📌 Make it easy for them to say yes.
📌 Do good work. Repeat.
Simple? Yes.
Easy? Not always.
But effective? Every single time.
Every Business Was Born a Little Differently… But All Had the Same Bones
Let me break it down with a few real examples:
🔧 When I freelanced in fashion, I focused on reputation and relationships. I submitted bids where my clients already were. I stood for transparency, timeliness, and no sugar-coating.
🛍 When I built my clothing boutique, I started with the brand experience. I obsessed over how my customers would feel. I crafted the visuals, nailed the vibe, and refined inventory based on customer feedback.
💍 When I co-launched a wedding dress brand, we had no website, no email list, no social media—just a solid concept, logo, and pro email address. We still got sales. Why? We got in front of the brides who needed us.
🧵 When I built a custom clothing line, we learned first. I posted, emailed, asked questions, and only created what the market asked for.
📦 When I sold on eBay, I listed first, optimized second. I didn’t wait to “know it all.” I learned by doing—and doing fast.
The Truth Behind Every Business I’ve Started
“You can only think your way through so much. You’ve got to move.”
The through-line? I always…
✅ Took messy, imperfect action.
✅ Talked to real people.
✅ Figured it out as I went.
✅ Adjusted after feedback.
✅ Stayed aligned with my values.
And that leads us to your roadmap...
🚀 The “Start Anyway” Roadmap
Whether you’re starting a coaching business, a product line, or a digital community, the foundation is the same. Here’s the roadmap I’ve refined from years of doing it over and over again:
STEP 1: Define Your Non-Negotiables (a.k.a. Your Deal Breakers)
Before anything else, get crystal clear on:
What kind of life and business you want
What you will not tolerate (toxic clients, time-sucking tasks, etc.)
What your “enough” looks like—financially, emotionally, spiritually
👉 If it’s not aligned, it’s doesn't belong in your business.
STEP 2: Create a Concept, Not a Full Business Plan
You don’t need a 40-page document. You need:
What the business does (in one clear sentence)
Who it helps
Why now
What makes it different
👉 Start with the heartbeat, not the blueprint.
STEP 3: Cast a Simple Vision
Think: long-term direction, not a GPS.
What kind of impact do you want it to have?
Where do you want this to lead you?
👉 Your vision should guide decisions—not trap you in perfection.
STEP 4: Build the Brand Feeling First
Before a logo or website, ask:
What should people feel when they interact with this brand?
What colors, fonts, and tone match that feeling?
Is it luxury, laid-back, punchy, faith-driven, playful?
👉 People buy feelings, not features.
STEP 5: Pick the Fastest Way to Get in Front of Your People
Forget the 6-month content plan. Ask:
Where are your people hanging out?
How can you talk to them directly?
What’s the lowest-lift, highest-impact way to show up?
👉 Visibility trumps perfection.
STEP 6: Take Action. Learn. Adjust. Repeat.
Done is better than perfect. Launch before you’re ready.
Then:
Ask for feedback
Track what’s working
Fix one thing at a time
👉 You don’t need to know everything. You need to be willing to learn fast.
